Kingsize.ie was established by Roscommon man Justin Dixon in 2010 in response to a demand by bigger men for fashionable large size clothes. We are a proud Irish company, selling worldwide. Every order is processed in our Galway store, and we endeavour to be the best in our field, offering a large range of well-known brands in sizes that fit, and to always be accessible to our customers.
Kingsize started in Dixon Menswear Longford, which originally only sold sizes from small to 2xl. The plan at the time was to close the shop after Christmas 2009, as trade was very bad. In October of 2009, three customers asked for products in larger sizes which we did not stock. They all explained the difficulty they had getting such clothing. Based on these enquiries, we sought out a brand that would supply us in bigger sizes.
The following week we got a delivery of 20 pieces of 3xl and 4xl polos, jumpers, and shirts. We called the same 3 guys who had enquired a few weeks earlier, and within 2 days we had sold 19 of the 20 pieces. Plans of closure were put on hold, and Kingsize was born.
In the summer of 2010 we took our first seasonal delivery of big sizes, built our website, kingsize.ie, and a few weeks later, had our first online sale in Mohill, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. Even typing this, I’m smiling as I wanted to walk to Mohill with that parcel.
The following Spring, we opened our first Kingsize shop in Galway and the following year, 2012, we opened in Dublin. We closed our Longford shop in 2012 as it became clear that, to offer our customers all they needed, we had to concentrate on big sizes only. Over the years we have added a tall range and a footwear range to our offering and are now Irelands leading big and tall menswear retailer.
We would like to thank all our customers over the years, especially those three men in Longford who asked the question, all those years ago. We are very grateful for all who have shopped and continue to shop with us.
